Los astilla espléndida

Usually former #1 overall picks aren't easy to forget: Chipper is a household name, Lebron is a quickly developing 2nd coming of Xenu and Joe Mauer is finally legitimizing his #1 pick over Mark Prior.

The 2000 MLB Amateur draft brought the Marlins Adrian Gonzalez at #1 overall and looking back, who knows who will be the best player out of that draft, there really isn't any standout guys that rock you with their cock out.

The Fish traded AGonzalez to the Rangers in 2003 to acquire Ugueth Urbina (who currently is serving time in a South American prison for pouring gasoline on his field workers and igniting them in flame) resulting in a World Championship for the Marlins, can't fault them for that at all.

The Rangers had no clue what to do with him already having Texeira at first base and needed to commit to either him or Gonzalez and they made the obvious choice for that time by going with Tex.

Enter the Padres, who at this point look like they have stolen Gonzalez from the Rangers for an oft-injured Adam Eaton and an old Japanese reliever, Aki Otsuka. To cap it off, they threw in Chris Young who is having a great year pitching in the vastness of Petco Park (at least until the Braves hit town).

While Tony Gwynn tends to talk out of his expediently-growing ass, he calls Gonzalez "the best young hitter I've seen in the SD organization in 10 years". Adrian is doing what he can to back up the statement hitting .275 with 16 HR and 44 RBI (as of July 15) compared to Texeira's .276 12 HR and 57 RBI you can see the Rangers really had something on their bench. Throw in the fact that you have to hit the ball 900 ft too hit a dinger at the Pet, Adrian's first year fulltime numbers are even that more impressive.

Could Adrian Gonzalez be the Mexican Ted Williams? Too early to tell but for now, we'll just call him "Los astilla espléndida"
