EA Sports - NCAA Baseball?

To cut formalities - if you didn't know by now, 2K Sports acquired the MLB license back in January in the same manner that EA acquired the license of NASCAR, NCAA, NFL & the PGA - that's why you've probably heard/noticed that Madden is the sole NFL football game this season, why Tiger Woods has been the only PGA licensed golf game and Sierra no longer makes a NASCAR game. Now essentially, MVP Baseball is no more until that situation is remedied, bought out or whatever they'd have to do to get back into it.

The shame out of this whole ordeal is that MVP '05 is arguably the best baseball game made - period. The engine is refined, the attention to detail is amazing and the game is just all around the most enjoyable baseball game on the market. 2K5 is a visually stunning game, plays pretty well but it did ship with a few noticeable bugs this season, and again, MVP was just much more fun in my opinion.

Back to what I wanted to get at, it appears that 2K Sports will be releasing another baseball title in time for the World Series this year - apparently correcting rosters with rookie updates, attribute changes and fixes to various problems. I think this idea is long overdue - baseball, for all intents & purposes is shitcanned come Madden time. Only your diehards play baseball thru the fall and winter months, often times only making a cameo appearance online come playoff time when everyone wants to use the Yankees or Red Sox to exert their dominance over someone else. Now we're going to get material to hold us over waiting for the next edition of the franchise, and all at a price tag of $25.00 - which is just $5 more than the original version despite exclusive licensing now.

The thing that really tickles my taint though is that after peering thru a Gamespot newsletter this morning in my inbox looking at SOCOM 3 (is that going to be unreal or what?), I read the article concerning 2K5: World Series edition and found a pretty definitive bit of material regarding the rumors on Operation Sports concerning an EA NCAA Baseball game. On Indystar.com (an online version of The Indianapolis Star), an August 21st article states at the bottom, "In February, EA Sports will release the first NCAA baseball game, with aluminum bats and the College World Series." Oooh, can't get anymore descriptive than that.

So does this mean that Boz will get to see more Ohio State than he ever could've imagined? Will he eat his words on saying no one cares about college baseball a few months back in a thread on Maddenmania? Will I be kicking the shit out of sudden LSU/ASU/Miami baseball fans with the Big 10 champions like I do in football? Only time will tell, but you heard it here first (that is if you read this before you read about it anywhere else).

  • Oh yeah, ESPN2k5 MLB was possibly not only the worst MLB game i've played in 15 years, it was just a horrible video game.

No way I purchase it next year, i'd rather go without than play this game, it was just all around bad.

  • Undecided on next year, gonna be really busy that time of year, but Biron has said he'd help out.

We'll see what the next year of MLB games gives us and re-evaluate.
